Summer camp program conducted at SCS Preschool by Faculties Dr.Niyathi & Dr.B.Shivani Rao

A summer camp program was conducted at SCS Preschool, Bikarnakatte and Urwa Riverside campus on 22- 04 2026 by Dr. Niyathi, Asso Prof.and Dr. B Shivani Rao, Asst. Prof.,Department of PG Studies in Dravyaguna Vijnana, along with Interns Dr. Kanchan, Dr Raghavendra, Dr. Siddesh, Dr. Nargis, Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mangalore.
Children were introduced to common medicinal plants through interactive and sensory-based learning. The objective was to enhance their awareness of natural remedies while engaging their sense organs—smell, touch, and taste—in a fun and educational manner.
Started a Session with a small brain activity and continued with other activities like
Activity 1: Sensory Play – Identification of Medicinal Plants
Children were introduced to commonly used medicinal plants such as Tulsi, Pudina (Mint), Coriander, and Curry Leaves.
The plants were explored using smell and touch, allowing children to identify their unique characteristics.
A simple rhyming and singing activity was conducted where children repeated the names of the plants in a playful manner. This activity encouraged sensory engagement and memory retention through music and repetition.
 Activity 2: Taste Exploration
Children were introduced to the concept of taste through two categories:
Sweet
Sour
This activity was conducted by making Children taste Sugar cane juice, Orange and Jaggery water.
They were encouraged to express their reactions, making the activity interactive and enjoyable.
This helped them understand taste differences while linking sensory responses to emotions.
Conclusion
The program was highly interactive and successful in creating awareness about medicinal plants among children. By integrating sensory play, music, and taste exploration, the activities made learning enjoyable and memorable. Children actively participated and demonstrated improved recognition of herbs.
